Michael Boriskin, Artistic and Executive Director
Hailed as “one of the most skilled and versatile pianists of his generation” by the American Record Guide, he has performed throughout the United States and in over 30 countries. A native New Yorker, he has appeared at many of the world's foremost concert venues and with leading international orchestras, and made his Lincoln Center solo recital debut on the Great Performers Series in 1997. His innovative broadcast series, CENTURYVIEW, on National Public Radio was heard regularly by over one-million listeners on 200 stations coast-to-coast. He has recorded a large and diverse repertoire ranging from Brahms and Tchaikovsky to the present on BMG/Conifer, Harmonia Mundi, New World, Albany, Koch International, CRI, Musical Heritage Society, and other labels. Mr. Boriskin is a frequent guest of chamber ensembles worldwide, and of major educational institutions, for master classes, residencies, workshops, and lectures. He has also held academic positions at The Mannes College of Music, the University of California, the City University of New York’s Aaron Copland School of Music, and other institutions. He has worked with virtually every major American composer of the past 25 years, and, is an accomplished writer, whose work has been published by Schirmer Books, American Record Guide, Symphony, Fanfare, Piano and Keyboard, Clavier, Stagebill (Lincoln Center), Ballet Review, and other periodicals. He was Music Director for three seasons of Mikhail Baryshnikov's White Oak Dance Project, overseeing the musical production and performance of nearly 250 concerts on 10 national and international tours. He was Guest Curator for the Lou Harrison 80th Birthday Exhibition jointly sponsored by Lincoln Center and the New York Public Library in 1997. He has served as artistic advisor or consultant for the United States Department of State, Carnegie Hall, Tisch Center for the Arts at the 92nd Street Y, New Line Cinema, Columbia University's Kathryn Bache Miller Theater, many other organizations, and was actively involved in the relocation of the fabled Arnold Schoenberg Institute. Mr. Boriskin has lead various Carnegie Hall symposia and teaching workshops, and played a featured role as performer, moderator, commentator, and programmer at the New York Philharmonic's Completely Copland Festival in 1999 at Avery Fisher Hall. Michael Boriskin was named Artistic Director of Copland House in March 1998, and his title was expanded to include Executive Director in April 2003. As Artistic and Executive Director, Mr. Boriskin works closely with the Board of Trustees to guide the institutional development and administration of Copland House, and helps to formulate and implement all of its programs and activities, including the Aaron Copland Awards (composers' residencies), musical events, and educational projects. |
